The Big Sandy School District will be switching to a four-day school week next school year after administrators weighed the pros and cons of the change. Big Sandy Superintendent Brad Moore said the district will start the 2015-2016 school year with the change in scheduling and thinks it will be easier for all parties. “In a Class C school, you have so many interruptions on Fridays,” he said. Sports and extracurricular activities take many students out of their classrooms at the end of the week. He added that it is not a tru...

Havre's skate park could be in for some sprucing up. The Merc has been a part of my life since I was a kid. I bought penny candy from John Campbell, rented movies from Brad and Sandra Ford, walked over on high school lunch break to grab a snack from Michelle and John Helmbrecht and, as an adult, purchased dinner for my family from Ted and Laura Pacheco Hauser Throughout the years, the Merc has been a fixture of life on the...

The entire Hi-Line delegation backed the proposal. It now goes to the Senate where it will hopefully will receive an equally warm reception. Montana’s Shield Law is one of the strongest in the nation. Notes taken by reporters for news stories cannot be seized by autho...
Editor: In Montana, all universities are equal, but some universities are more equal than other universities. Waded Cruzado is fond of saying that Montana State University is one university. Of course, nobody is fooled. We know Bozeman comes first and gets the lion’s share of students and resources. Over the last 10 years, Bozeman’s enrollment has increased 21 percent while Northern’s enrollment has decreased 19 percent. Bozeman is allowed by the regents to add programs, while at the same time, they are vetoing North...
