After missing a week of competition due to unexpectedly bad travel conditions, this weekend's Helena Invitational becomes even more important to the Havre High boys and girls swim teams. The Blue Ponies will be in Helena on Saturday for the final regular season meet of the year. After the Helena meet, HHS will have exactly two weeks to prepare for the all-class state swim meet. But Saturday will be the final time Havre swimmers race against live competition. And the Ponies will certainly get good competition in Helena. Both...
The Montana State University-Northern women came into Thursday night's game in Lewiston, Idaho off not one, but two big wins. The Lewis-Clark State Warriors didn't. Instead, LC State was looking to rebound from a nearly 30-point loss to Westminster College last Saturday, and the No. 13 Warriors took it out on the Skylights Thursday night. The Warriors beat Northern 59-43, ending the Skylights two-game Frontier Conference winning streak. Northern was able to hang tough early on, trailing by just a few points for much of the fi...
Getting off to a good start on the road is something the Montana State University-men's basketball team knows is important. But Thursday night in Lewiston, Idaho, the No. 19 Lights didn't do that. Instead, Northern fell behind host Lewis-Clark State right away, and the result was a 70-61 Frontier Conference road loss. David Maddock hit a 3-pointer at the 15:46 mark to put the Lights up 9-6. However, LC's defense kept the Lights scoreless for the next 8:42 of the game while the Warriors went on a 15-0 run. That put LC ahead...
A big run by the Great Falls High Bison kept the Havre High Blue Ponies at bay. Thursday night in Great Falls, the Class AA Bison defeated the Central A Ponies 69-55 in nonconference play. And with the loss, the Ponies dropped to 5-6 overall and remained 4-3 in conference. At the halfway point the Ponies trailed by just one point, trailing 21-20. And that was after overcoming a 14-7 deficit in the first eight minutes. But in the third quarter the Bison gained some separation, coming out of the lockerroom hot. GFH hit some...
Another slow start was the demise for the Havre High girls basketball team. Thursday night at the Havre High gymnasium the Central A Blue Ponies suffered a non-conference loss, falling to the Class AA Great Falls Bison 51-39. With the loss the Ponies remain 2-5 in the conference, but dropped to 3-8 overall. And for the Bison, they are very happy to grab the non-conference win, as they have only two wins on the season improving to 2-9. Both wins came at the hands of HHS, one in Great Falls and now one in Havre. "It's not like...
Every Havre High wrestler deserves some recognition for the Blue Ponies' success, but tonight the seniors will get the limelight. Tonight while hosting Class B/C Conrad and Forsyth, the Pony senior grapplers will be recognized. And for all the accomplishments earned over the last four years, the recognition is well deserved. Duell Stadel, Josh Salapich and Jared Ruttkofsky are the three seniors on this years roster. "Duell (Stadel) has been lights out tough since he got here and last year Jared (Ruttkofsky) and Josh...
Whether it's a Class A, Class C, Class B or a Class AA opponent, it doesn't matter. The purpose of the Havre High wrestling schedule is to get better in time for the postseason. And preparing to host two of the better B-C programs around, the Central A Blue Ponies will do just that. Tonight at 5 p.m. at the HHS gymnasium the Ponies will host the B-C Conrad Cowboys and Forsyth Dogies. "Forsyth is the top B-C team and Conrad is always tough," Havre High head coach Scott Filius said. "And we are going to wrestle both of them at...
