I leaned against my kitchen stove talking with a friend, mindlessly staring at the cupboard across from me. Suddenly my eyes popped. "That pull on the bottom drawer next to the sink is crooked. I have lived here five years and I have never seen it until just this moment. I can't believe I never noticed it before." Sondra Ashton In half a heartbeat I crossed to the drawer, pulled it out, and checked to see if one of the screws had fallen out. My house is old. My kitchen is old. My cupboards are old. And the drawer pulls are...

Editor: In a recent newspaper article, Rep. Wendy Warburton said she supported the idea of a referendum on the right-to-life issue so the people could decide. Sounds like a great idea. But I have to question her support of letting the people decide, since she has voted to overturn voter-passed initiatives. Wendy, do you really support the vote of the people or do you only support our vote if it goes the way you want? Raela Hulett Havre...

I would also remind him that our immigrants departed their various countries to be free from under the authority of eminent domain. Our forefathers replaced the dreaded power of eminent domain with an allodial system, meaning "free from the tenurial rights of a feudal overlord." This word is also expressed in another form, allodium, meaning "land owned absolutely; land owned and not subject to any rent or...
