    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 22, 2018

On Saturday night, the Lights snapped a three-game Frontier Conference losing streak with a resounding 75-55 win over Montana Tech inside the Armory Gymnasium. Northern shot 49 percent from the floor as opposed to just 29 percent last Wednesday night in Great Falls in...

The foundation’s predecessor was an account opened by the Hill County commissioners through Independence Bank while the fire still raged last fall. • Letter to the Editor - Thanks to all for Chamber luncheon

    Updated Jan 22, 2018

Editor, Isn’t it funny how the “best laid plans” fail to materialize sometimes? It was disappointing to miss the annual Chamber luncheon meeting. There were many, many people that I wanted to thank at that meeting and now that list is even longer. Thanks to my daughter, Marisa Robertson for stepping up immediately to do everything she could that morning in preparation for the luncheon and for giving part of my presentation. Thanks to China Bohn and Julea Robbins for jumping in also. Of course, the original thank-you list incl...

The Grizzlies (14-5, 7-0), who lost in Bozeman last year to snap a...

Havre was in Great Falls Friday for a double-dual against the CMR Rustlers and Great Falls High Bison, before heading to Missoula for Saturday’s prestigious Missoula Invitational. On Friday in Great Falls, the Havre girls were outstanding, as the Ponies beat GFH 134-118 and stayed with CMR, trailing only 166-109. Ind...

  • Central A rivals turn back Pony boys

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 22, 2018

The Havre High boys basketball team was hoping to climb back into the Central A conference race with a win or two this past weekend. Unfortunately for the Blue Ponies, that's not exactly what happened. The Ponies traveled to Livingston Friday to open their two-game road trip, but proved to be no match for the Rangers, who routed Havre 56-25. Saturday, Belgrade, like Livingston, completed the season sweep of the Ponies, knocking them off by the score of 67-50. Against...

However, visiting Montana Tech had other ideas. Saturday night inside the Armory Gymnasium, the Orediggers ripped off an 18-2 run in the fourth quarter to break open what was a close game, on their way to a 71-59 victory over the Skylights, who fell to 1-7 in the Frontier. • Pony grapplers come up short at Class A Duals

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 22, 2018

The Havre High wrestling team was hoping to win the Class A Duals once again this past weekend, but for the second time this season, Sidney got the best of the Blue Ponies in a dual. Kind of. The annual dual tournament featured all 22 Class A teams and was held last Friday and Saturday in Lewistown. Overall, the Ponies finished with a 7-1 record, but after winning their first seven duals, Havre lost to Sidney in the semifinals. The two teams tied 22-22, but the Eagles won on c...

  • Lights finish strong at Missouri Valley Invite

    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 22, 2018

It was tough on the Montana State University-Northern wrestling team, being at less than full strength for the biggest regular season tournament of the year. And yet, the 12th-ranked Lights still did plenty of damage at this weekend’s Missouri Valley Invitational. Even without star junior Brandon Weber in the lineup, and losing standout 174-pounder Chris Nile, the Lights still finished sixth at what many consider the top regular season field in the NAIA. At the Missouri V...

In the first matchup between the two teams Friday, the Ice...

  • HHS girls fend off Rangers, Panthers

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 22, 2018

If the Havre High girls basketball team was going to keep its stranglehold of the Central A intact, it was going to have to win on the road without its leading scorer. And while it wasn't always easy, that's exactly what the Blue Ponies did this past weekend. Without Kyndall Keller, the Havre girls didn't skip a beat. The Blue Ponies downed Livingston 47-36 Friday night and then beat Belgrade on the road, 59-46 Saturday. Havre is now 12-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Central...
