It's the smallest senior class I can ever remember playing football for the Havre Blue Ponies, in numbers that is. But make no mistake, the three Blue Ponies who were honored in what could be their final home of their careers have been gin this fall. Havre High's Thurman Holdsclaw, Zach Plum and Chet Shrauger have a lot of talent underneath them, but the trio of HHS seniors have had a huge impact on the Ponies' season — a season in which HHS is in playoff contention yet a...
The Havre High volleyball team knows it has the talent to turn in a great season this year. They have proved that with big time wins at tournaments like the Electric City Classic, and will hopefully continue that stellar play on Saturday. Saturday the Central A Blue Ponies will be in Lewistown. The Ponies will face two nonconference opponents in Hardin and Laurel. The Ponies didn't get off to the best start this season, but they have shown they can be a top contender if they play well. Unforced errors and mistakes hurt them...
Coming off of a weekend where both the Havre High boys and girls cross country teams won team titles in Malta, the Blue Ponies are looking to keep this successful pace. And this weekend is the perfect time to do that, as the Central A Ponies will run this afternoon in Lewistown. The Lewistown meet is always an important one for the Ponies, as they run into Belgrade, Lewistown, Livingston, and Browning (the entire Central A), as well as most of the Eastern A. A handful of Class B and Class C schools will also be in...
It's early in the 2012 Frontier Conference football season, and it's not time to hit the panic button quite yet. But make no mistake, the Montana State University-Northern Lights need a win. And if the Lights are going to get their first win of the season, they'll have to do it on a second consecutive out-of-state Montana State University-Northern's Kyle Johnston (ball) looks for running room during last month's Frontier Conference game against Carroll in Havre. The Lights...
Looking at what Havre High's Thomas Gruber has done this season, you wouldn't know that he had just one varsity start prior to this season. Gruber, a junior, has adjusted very well to the varsity lineup in just three games this season. He is a starting wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball, and is a starting corner on the defensive side of the ball. And while it sometimes takes players several weeks to really make a splash when new to the varsity lineup, Gruber has seemingly made the transition with no major...

A string of patients with strange symptoms admitted to Northern Montana Hospital in the past month has hospital staff and local law enforcement concerned. Kathy Labaty, who runs the emergency room at the hospital, said she has seen several people come in recently in the middle of violent hallucinatory marathon fits, and she doesn't know why. "In the last month we've seen a dramatic increase of patients that have been altered by a substance that does not show up on our toxicology screen, " Labaty said. "They are aggressive. Th...

We now interrupt your regularly scheduled news and editorials to bring you this special, anti-factual Pamville News Report on the war — the War on Women. ******* Whether the war is real, imagined or just trumped up charges, the so-called War on Women has, thus far, been waged a million miles away from here in states like Florida, Ohio, Virginia and the deep south. Laurel — Havre Public Schools Superintendent Andy Carlson made a good point this week. He said that despite the fact the district has failed to meet the No Child Left Behind's Adequate Yearly Progress benchmarks, the district is in good shape. We hope school officials continue to strive for better test score results, but parents can be assured that Havre students are getting a good education with good teachers in a good setting. Classroom work and extracurricular activities in the school district offer students excellent o...

The victim was taken to Kalispell Regional Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. A hospital administrator told The Associated Press...
MADISON, Wis. — A Wisconsin judge on Friday struck down nearly all of the state law championed by Gov. Scott Walker that effectively ended collective bargaining rights for most public workers. Walker's administration immediately vowed to appeal, while unions, which have vigorously fought the law, declared victory. But what the ruling meant for existing public contracts was murky: Unions claimed the ruling meant they could negotiate again, but Walker could seek to keep the law in effect while the legal drama plays out. The l...
A total of 390 homes and much of Montana State University-Northern were left without gas service Friday after a mistake by workers. Crews from around Montana were called in to help local staff, said NorthWestern Energy spokeswoman Claudia Rapkoch. The Cats are coming off a 34-24 scare at Drake last Saturday night. Turnovers and bad execution for three quarters led MSU int...
