  • Someone has to be it

    Pam Burke|Updated Jan 6, 2017

I call it negative inspiration. You know how you meet someone or read a story about someone amazing who has triumphed in life despite incredible tragedy. Yeah, this isn’t it. Negative inspiration is like your mom telling you to eat your broccoli because there’s starving children in Africa. Except negative inspiration is better because it’s real. I mean no disrespect to the children of Africa, starving or otherwise, but something happening to a friend or family member or neighb...

  • 'Practical Pastoring:The Church Book Five'

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

The ministry is a marathon. You cannot complete the race if the enemy destroys you before you get to the finish line. In some of my earlier work, I shared part of the pain of entering the ministry and dealing with some of the people who attend church. You are not exempt from the pain of dealing with people who act carnal, selfish, greedy, or mean. Do not sink to their level. Keep your eyes on Jesus and maintain a clean heart when pastoring. Moses is a good example of one who prayed for people who were behaving badly. Pray...

Overwhelmed by the heat and famished for water, he promised God that if he survived, he would give himself to the Lord as a Christmas present. The next day, he was rescued by a traveler and subsequently, he kept his promise. On that Christmas Day, he asked himself what he might do for God and his fellowman. He was not seekin...

  • Out Our Way:

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

Mark 10:46-52 Out our way, round up is an exciting time and usually folks from all over come and help out. Charlie and I rode round up one fall for “Big Mike.” Mike had a number of folks out on the quads to drive in the herd, and he hired a number of Hutterites to stand in the corral and help load the critters into the trucks. Charlie and I rode the arroyos and hawthorn bushes looking for the strays the mechanized cowboys missed. We brought in about 50 head, including a few calves that had gotten lost and were bawling for...

  • Pony girls finally play in the Corral

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 6, 2017

And with the rest of the league looking less than formidable, the Blue Ponies will get their challenges again in non-conference games this season, like the one tonight against Fairfield, the Class B runner-up last March. The matchup, which features two of the most consistent programs in the state, w...
