The fourth annual Kellen Lund Memorial Bike Ride will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m at Pepin Park. The ride was designed to remember Kellen, who died in 2009, when a grain truck struck him while he was walking his bike across the viaduct on 7th Avenue. The Hill County 4-H teen representative and queen were elected Thursday for 2013. Natalen Kinsella was elected queen, and Mike Compton was chosen as teen representative. Kinsella, upcoming senior at Havre High School, said that she was not nervous about the verdict. “I was pretty confident,” she said. Morgan Jappe, upcoming Havre High School senior, will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University in New York. The conference is in its 24th year and will take place Tuesday through Aug. 3. At the conference, students will participate in trips, tours and workshops that are tailored to fit individual interests. Bear Paw Credit Union Youth Day was held Wednesday at Pepin Park from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. The credit union partnered with Havre Parks and Recreation to create a fun, carnival-like environment that was free to participating kids and parents alike. The Blaine County Fair at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Chinook started this morning and will end Sunday evening. Preparation for the fair started with distributing gravel to dry out the fairgrounds for events that began today. The fair will be without a carnival this year because “it’s difficult to get a carnival any more,” said fair manager of eight years Suzanne Berger. Monday was the first day of the Spanish Camp held at Havre High School, coordinated by the Havre High School Spanish Club. This is the first year of the program and was offered to students in first through fifth grades. Attendance for the first day was high. Jessa Pyette, incoming senior at Havre High School, left today for a four-week summer program at The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. This is an intensive four-week, acting-based program that is intended to help high school- and college-aged students determine if they would like to go into acting full-time. Local veterans will hold at a Memorial Day program Monday at 11 a.m at the Hill County Courthouse. The lineup includes a flag-raising ceremony to be performed by local Boy Scouts of America. Weather permitting, flags will be marched down the sidewalks outside the courthouse, and the national anthem will be played.
