    Holden's Hotwheels Scotch Doubles Tournament is on tap for this Saturday and Sunday. Shift times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on both days. Bowlers wanting to bowl in this tournament are asked to please sign up in advance. There are sign-up sheets at the counter. Rising to the top in the team Event was the team of Shawn Mariani, Kelly Olson, Robert Sparks, Nick Turner and Jason McDonald, with a score of 3542. They were led by Kelly Olson with a 691, right behind him was Shawn with a 687, Nick Turner 609, Robert Sparks 519 (129ave.), J. McDonald 674. 2ND Randolph Law 3320; Bill Henry Construction 3238.     There's one more week to qualify for the Pepsi Challenge. Next Sunday will be the last time youth bowlers may qualify for a chance to bowl for scholarships in the Pepsi Challenge later this spring.     In thumbing back through the Havre Daily News' Special Edition of Dec. 9, 1965, I found a picture of the "Heavy Duty Five" team which was probably the biggest team in the nation. For that honor they were featured in the April 1965 issue of the National Bowling Magazine on the "Wonderful World of Bowling" page.     The Men's City Tournament is scheduled for the week of Feb. 15 with team event starting at 7 p.m. Singles and Doubles will be bowled on the weekend, Feb. 18 and 19 with extra team shifts available.     Hi-Line Lanes will be running a six game 9–pin No-Tap Singles Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. This will be a handicapped tournament with a max of 25 pins per game.     The Annual Hi Line Lanes No-Tap gets underway this Friday at 4 p.m. There is a new twist this year with the tournament. It will be held on Friday and Saturday due to the Youth leagues on Sunday.     The Holden's Hot Wheels Tournament was a success. On Saturday and Sunday bowlers took to the lanes. Junior bowlers doing their best to strike or leave an easy spare for their partner to pick up, which sometimes was a big challenge for the elder bowler.     On Saturday, 30 eager bowlers took to the lanes all with the same objective in mind, to overcome the lane conditions and come out victorious in the annual Hi Line Lanes Challenge. Only one, Roman Surber, a local bowler, survived. Out of the 30 bowlers there was six women who put their skills up against the men and did very well.     Monday's will be the night for the Jr.-Adult No-Tap league. The starting date will be Monday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and running until March 12. However, we need at least three more teams to make it a successful league. Call the lanes to sign up. There will be a drawing for a bowling ball (for a junior) when the league concludes.     This coming Sunday, U.S.B.C. Youth Bowling will commence at 1:30 p.m. for Bantam and Prep bowlers and 3:30 p.m. for Junior/Major. Pee Wee will start Nov. 6, at 3:30 p.m. and runs for six weeks. Bowlers are asked to be present at least 30 minutes before league starts to register and fill out cards and an orientation. Also, come early to make sure your bowling ball fits properly.     Saturday night jackpot bowling will resume on Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. after a brief absence. Bowlers who wish to bowl in this popular event are asked to call to reserve his or her spot for the night.     Hi-Line Lanes Challenge will be Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. The format will be the same as in the past with bowlers bowling six games across 12 lanes each with a different oil pattern from very dry to very oily.     BOWL FREE from Dec. 18 to Jan. 18. People who come out to open bowling during the week and weekends may receive up to three free games of bowling. All they have to do is to bring out three cans of food and they will get three free lines of bowling. The cans of food will be donated to the Food Bank.     The Pepsi U.S.B.C. Youth Challenge Tournament will be run the next two Sundays during league. Those wishing to participate will have to designate before league starts. All bowlers will have to bowl three lines in each division.     Ron Turner threw a 298 game on the Monday Night Straightaway League. It was his third game in a four game set. When asked what happened on the twelfth ball, he said "I choked." He pulled it and the ball went a little high leaving the 4-7. Ron has one 300 game to his credit, bowling that on the Monday Straightaway.     The Pee Wee League will get underway this Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3:30 p.m. and run for six weeks under the supervision of Chris Drew. Ages are seven and under to 4 or 5 depending on size and capability. It seems like lane conditions are the big topic. It is true we are fighting the oiling machine.
