Sunday, March 13, in the Sunday Night Keglers league Ryne Antley, one of the rising stars of Havre and the state of Montana, put together games of 245, 224, 237 for a 706 series, his highest to date. Ryne is one of the new bowlers who uses the two handed delivery. He is advancing at a fast rate with that style. At first I was skeptical with that syle of delivery but I think it is the new generation of bowling. It seems easier to teach and has a lot more power. I am sure we will be hearing a lot more of Ryne in the future....
The final weekend of play in the No-Tap and Men’s Revenge is over and there is some changes in both tournaments. Capturing first place in the No-Tap Mixed was local bowlers, Doug and Dianne Watson, with a score of 1,679; 2nd place went to Donna Borgen and Steve Miner of Glasgow with a score of 1,668. Over the weekend a few area bowlers traveled to Choteau to bowl in a scratch tournament. Shawn Mariani and Kelly Olson placed eighth and 11th, respectively while Jim LaBuda of Big Sandy ended up in the ninth position. The tournament was won by Lefty Mark Hodges from Butte, a former P.B.A. member and a Hall of Fame bowler. Holden’s Hot Wheels Junior/Adult scotch doubles tournament is schedule for Jan. 31. Those interested may sign up at the desk. The format is one youth and one adult alternating shots for the games bowled. There will be Bantam, Prep, Junior and Major divisions according to age. The Second Annual U.S.B.C. On the weekend of Nov. 7-8, three keglers traveled across the border to Calgary. They were Jacob Anderson, Ryan Mapes and Shawn Mariani. Report was Ryan and Shawn qualilfied Saturday with Ryan 12th and Shawn 20th, while Jacob missed the cut. In match play Sunday Ryan finished 32nd and Shawn 13th in the overall standings. That tournament is one of the premier tournaments in Canada and attracts bowlers from all over Canada and the Northwest. There will be a Havre U.S.B.C. open meeting tonight at 6 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to elect board members. All members of the U.S.B.C. are urged to attend. Last Saturday, 26 men and women bowlers took to the hardwoods to show their skills on the different oil patterns. When the step ladder ended, Roman Surber was the top dog for the second time in three years. The step ladder started with Surber defeating Shawn Burrington 219 to 182, then moving on to out score Terry Adolf 222 to 218.
