A man who deserted from the Afghanistan army has been arrested in Havre. U.S. Border Patrol officers from the Havre station arrested Mustafa Tanin as he was on a westbound Amtrak train on Tuesday. Agents said Tanin, an officer in the Afghan military, entered the United States for military training. He was sent to Lackland Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. Havre firefighters — hoping to beat the Hi-Line subzero weather — will hold their Everybody Loves Firefighters food drive early this year. Firefighters will take their fire trucks, lights flashing and sirens blaring, through the east end of Havre next Wednesday, then they will go through the west end Thursday. They will go door to door collecting nonperishable food items for donations to the Havre Food Bank. The drive is the largest effort the food bank undertakes to collect food. Havre Public Schools has received no takers on its Mat Corner building at 2nd Street and 2nd Avenue. The district closed down operations at the building and moved wrestling practice to the newly enlarged athletic facilities at Havre High School. A Havre man, Charles Anthony Combs, 20, is in the Hill County Detention Center, charged with felony assault and misdemeanor assault, resulting from a fracas in Morgan Hall at Montana State University-Northern this morning. Great Northern Fair Manager Mike Sharp has been fired. Hill County Personnel Manager Emily Meyer confirmed that Sharp’s employment was terminated last week by the Great Northern Fair Board. FBI officials are investigating the death of 58-year-old Shawn Snow of Hays. Blaine County Sheriff Glenn Huestis said an autopsy was performed last weekend that determined Snow died Oct. 3 of multiple stab wounds that are believed to be from a screwdriver. A new building will be added to the Rudyard Depot Museum complex to house a collection antique farm equipment farm. Gov. Steve Bullock announced that the museum will get $30,000 from a fund aimed at enhancing tourism in the state.
