  • Warriors pummel Skylights

George Ferguson Havre Daily News sports editor

The Montana State University-Northern women came into Thursday night's game in Lewiston, Idaho off not one, but two big wins. The Lewis-Clark State Warriors didn't. The Warriors beat Northern 59-43, ending the Skylights two-game Frontier Conference winning streak. Northern was able to hang tough early on, trailing by just a few points for much of the fi...

George Ferguson Havre Daily News sports editor

Getting off to a good start on the road is something the Montana State University-men's basketball team knows is important. But Thursday night in Lewiston, Idaho, the No. 19 Lights didn't do that. Instead, Northern fell behind host Lewis-Clark State right away, and the result was a 70-61 Frontier Conference road loss. David Maddock hit a 3-pointer at the 15:46 mark to put the Lights up 9-6. However, LC's defense kept the Lights scoreless for the next 8:42 of the game while the Warriors went on a 15-0 run. That put LC ahead...

Daniel Horton Havre Daily News sports

A big run by the Great Falls High Bison kept the Havre High Blue Ponies at bay. Thursday night in Great Falls, the Class AA Bison defeated the Central A Ponies 69-55 in nonconference play. And with the loss, the Ponies dropped to 5-6 overall and remained 4-3 in conference. At the halfway point the Ponies trailed by just one point, trailing 21-20. And that was after overcoming a 14-7 deficit in the first eight minutes. But in the third quarter the Bison gained some separation, coming out of the lockerroom hot. GFH hit some...

  • Four is enough: Pony girls survive Conrad

Daniel Horton Havre Daily News sports

A win is a win, and teams will take them anyway they can. But next time around the Havre High girls basketball team would probably like to do so with five players on the court. Saturday in Conrad the Ponies were able to get back to the win column. The Central A Blue Ponies defeated the Class B Conrad Cowgirls 49-46. But after a strange series of events, the Ponies played the last 1:30 or so with just four girls on the court. And despite the disadvantage, the Ponies were still able to come from behind and capture the nonconfer...
