Instead, Donoven was known more for his athletic abilities on the football field, the basketball court and in track and field.     It was a rocky start to the postseason for Havre North Stars, but the window is still open for a run at a trip to the state tournament. Thursday morning the American Legion North Stars lost in the opening round of the 2013 Northern District baseball tournament in Vauxhall, Alberta.   • British Soccer Camp returning to Havre's fields this summer

    Soccer is on the rise in Montana, and Havre is making sure it keeps pace with the rest of the state. The U19 Hi-Line United coed team has been crowned state champions two times in the last three years, and local athletes can get in on the action Aug. 5-9 at the Havre High soccer fields, just south of the gymnasium.     This summer, Havre High had several head coaching and assistant coaching jobs open up. But the Blue Pony board, as well as Blue Pony fans and athletes can rest a little easier, as two major coaching positions have been filled. HHS Activities Director Dennis Murphy announced two new hirings.     Another Havre youth baseball season has come to an end this summer, but the Havre 15-year-old Babe Ruth All Stars didn’t go quietly. Over the weekend, the Babe Ruth ball players went 4-2 at the state tournament in Whitefish.     The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team continued to write the same story over the weekend, proving that when they play well they can beat anybody in the district. But they also showed that too many costly mistakes expose their youth, and can result in devastating losses.     The Havre Jaycees Demolition Derby closed out another successful Great Northern Fair Sunday evening, and the crowd did not leave disappointed. Seventeen derby cars, and three more herby derby cars gave fans from all over a great show at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.     Over the years, chances are David Denny could be found on either the baseball diamond, or the golf course. Denny has been a steady participant and athlete in Havre, making a lot of noise on the Havre High Blue Pony golf team, and in Havre youth, and American Legion baseball.     After putting up a couple of good fights, a persistent Vauxhall team got the better of the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball club. Tuesday evening, the North Stars and Spurs faced off in two district games at Legion Field in Havre.     The short break in action came to an end for the Havre North Stars, but they were back on the diamond for more American Legion action Monday. Havre was on the road Monday afternoon, taking on the Tri-County Cardinals in Conrad. And in the district doubleheader, the North Stars and Cardinals split the two games.     Last weekend, the Havre 15-year-old Babe Ruth all stars turned in a 1-3 record. But with one last weekend left in the season, Havre is looking to turn in a much better weekend at the state tournament. Saturday, Great Falls beat Havre 9-3, but Havre turned around to defeat Helena 11-10. And Sunday, Helena defeated Havre 13-3, before Northern defeated Havre 4-3.     It has been a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs for the Havre 13U Babe Ruth all stars, but the summer’s play all comes down to this weekend. Hosting the 2013 13U state tournament, Havre will be joined by Glendive, Kalispell, Glacier, Hi-Line (Glasgow), and Helena at Legion Field this weekend.     The all-star baseball season is winding down across Montana, and both the Havre 13U and 15-year-old Babe Ruth all star teams took another step toward their respected state tournaments over the weekend. The 15-year-old squad played the Great Falls Shockers on Sunday in Havre, but suffered two losses by scores of 14-12 and 16-9.     After getting rained out Monday, the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball team got back on track Tuesday. Continuing the Canadian road trip, the North Stars faced the district rival Fort MacLeod Royals in doubleheader action. The Royals took both games away from the North Stars, including a narrow 6-4 win in Game 1, and a more dominating, 12-5 win in Game 2.
