A win or a loss this weekend won't budge the conference standings for or against the Havre High volleyball team, but the Blue Ponies would love nothing more than to end the regular season with some positive momentum against one of the top teams in the conference. The Blue Ponies are in fourth place with a 2-5 record in the Central A and 5-11 record overall. But in the final regular season match, the Ponies will face the No. 2 team in the conference. The Lewistown Golden...
The wide receiver position at Havre High has been deep and star studded over the years. It seems like no matter who the Blue Ponies graduate the previous season, there is always a senior wide out ready and willing to step up and take over. This season, that senior happens to be 5-6, 160-pound Thomas Gruber. Last season Gruber was a junior starter, but may have gotten lost in the shadows of First-Team All-State receiver Zach Plum and First-Team All-State tight end Thurman Holds...

The Belgrade Panthers defeated the Ponies in three games by scores of 25-23, 25-26, and 25-23, and the Livingston Rangers defeated the Ponies in three games by...
For years now, the Carroll College Fighting Saints have had a way of making it a long afternoon when going head-to-head with the Montana State University-Northern Lights. In fact, coming into Saturday's game in Havre, Carroll had done it to Northern 17 straight times. And on a sunny and windy day at Blue Pony Stadium, the Saints made it 18 long days in a row. The No. 7 Saints defeated the Lights 42-14 in Frontier Conference play at Blue Pony Stadium in Havre Saturday....
For the third straight week the Montana State University-Northern football team struggled in Frontier Conference play. And after the Lights suffered a 42-14 loss to the powerhouse Carroll Saints on Saturday at Blue Pony Stadium in Havre, it marked the third straight loss for the Lights as well. The Lights started the 2013 season with a 4-1 record, but have fallen to 4-4 after the three game slide to Rocky Mountain, Southern Oregon, and now Carroll. A big reason for the recent...
Playing the final game of the regular season, the Havre High football team still had several areas of concern to check off of its list before rolling into the postseason. A win was also on the want list, and the No. 2 Central A Ponies accomplished that with a 32-6 romping over the conference rival Browning Indians Friday night in Browning. The Ponies improved to 3-1 in the conference and 4-4 overall, while the Indians finished winless in league play. Teams have been plenty...

The Hawks are 7-1 this season, and are tied in the league standings with Belt and Simms, both also 7-1 this year. But the Hawks are also ranked No. 4 in...
The beauty behind the conference schedule is that the Havre High volleyball team always gets a second crack at their Central A foes. And when facing two conference rivals they haven't seen since the second week of the season, the Blue Ponies are more than ready to see how they match up the second time around. Early in the season, the Livingston Rangers and Belgrade Panthers both swept the Ponies in three games. The Rangers defeated the Ponies by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and...

It was an odd week in prep football with most of the games being played Wednesday and Thursday, but the unusual schedule didn't throw off all of the local teams. Unfortunately though, the Six-Man North Star Knights weren't one of those teams to come away with a win. On Wednesday, the Knights hosted Denton-Geyser-Stanford in Rudyard, but the Bearcats handed the Knights a devastating 59-0 loss at home. The Knights dropped to 4-2 in league play and 5-2 overall. North Star failed...
The divisional cross country race can prove to be one of the more difficult races on the schedule, and while the Havre High boys team remained competitive, the Blue Pony girls put their stamp on the postseason with some authority. After a week off, the Ponies competed against the rest of the Central A at the divisional meet in Bozeman on Saturday. And the Pony girls stepped up and claimed a conference title on Saturday with a team score of 51 points. The Browning Indians...
A game can look tight to start, but that same game can quickly get away from a team due to turnovers. The Havre High football team was in a tight game with the non-conference Polson Pirates on Friday night in Polson, but watched an early lead disappear against a very talented Northwestern A team after a tough defensive and offensive outing by the Ponies. The Pirates defeated the Central A Ponies 52-20. The Pirates are now 2-1 in league and 5-2 overall, while Havre dropped to 3-4 overall, while remaining in second place in...
The final stretch of the regular season can make or break a football team heading into the postseason. The Havre High Blue Ponies are well aware of that, and know just how important this nonconference matchup is in the second to last game of the season. Tonight, the No. 2 Central A Ponies will take to the road to face the hosting No. 2 Northwestern A Polson Pirates. A nonconference matchup doesn't do too much for the Ponies in the standings, but a win would be nice, and would...
The time to begin peaking is now for the Havre High boys and girls cross country teams. The regular season is over and the Blue Pony harriers had an extra week to prepare for the Central A divisional race on Saturday at Lindley Park in Bozeman. The Belgrade Panthers are the host team, welcoming in the Ponies, as well as the Lewistown Golden Eagles, Livingston Rangers, and Browning Indians. Typically the Central A is packed with running talent, and the same should be true this...
It is rare to find a prep athlete able to earn a varsity letter all four years of high school, especially in two sports. But it is even more rare to find an athlete who is able to do that, but also excel in both sports in dominating fashion. The Havre High Blue Ponies found an athlete capable of such accomplishments in Tyler Adams. Adams is in his senior year at Havre High, and approaching the end of his senior season with Central A Blue Pony football team. But with his...

And though it was the second meeting between the Central A Blue Ponies and Choteau Bulldogs, the Ponies got a reminder on just how tough the Bulldogs are this season. The Bulldogs defeated the Ponies in three games by scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-18. Havre knew it would be a tough match on the road after losing in five to the Bulldogs at home earlier this season. But even though the Ponies struggled to keep pace, Havre High head coach...
Already in the final stretch of the regular season, the Havre High volleyball team has limited time to get where it needs to be to be competitive in the postseason. Tonight, the Ponies (5-7, 2-1) will face the Bulldogs in Choteau. It is the second meeting between the two teams, and the Ponies are looking to bounce back from a loss to...
Cooper Spicher's big senior season has helped the Knights bounce back After a rough stretch that spans at least three seasons, the North Star Knights’ football program has finally bounced back. The Six-Man Knights finished the season with a 3-5 record a year ago, but have already turned in a 5-1 record this fall. The Knights have also clinched a spot in the Class C playoffs already, but are now in the hunt for a conference title and a top seed heading into the posseason. A...
It was another tough week for local football programs, and if it wasn’t for one team’s big second half, the Hi-Line would have gone winless on the weekend. The Northern C 8-Man Chester/J-I Hawks recorded the only local win over the weekend. Holding a slim 22-20 lead over the Great Falls Central Mustangs at the half, the Hawks went on to record a 50-20 win, also improving to 6-1 this season, sliding into second place in the conference, and ruining the Mustangs’ homec...
Sometimes one game can define a football team’s season. And once the 2013 season comes to an end, the Havre High football team may very well be able to look back and say that game was the Blue Ponies’ home finale. Friday night the Central A Blue Ponies hosted the conference rival Lewistown Golden Eagles at Blue Pony stadium in Havre. And in what can best be described as a nail biter, the Ponies found a way to come back from a 21-7 fourth-quarter deficit and earn a very dra...
If there was any doubt that the Havre High offense still housed the capability to explode at any time, the Blue Ponies put that doubt to rest Friday night under the lights of Blue Pony Stadium. The No. 2 Central A Ponies hosted the winless conference rival Lewistown Golden Eagles Friday in Havre. And for the first three quarters of action, the Ponies had local fans worried about an upset. The Ponies scored on the opening drive of the game, a two-yard pass from Dane Warp to Tho...
