Jerry was born on June 8, 1941, in Cape Gerardeau, Missouri, to Earl and Lura (Hazlip) King. He was raised in the Bethany, Missouri, community, attending school there. In 1959, he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served in the National Guard and in the U.S. Army until 1963. Upon his discharge from duty, he joined a wheat harvest and met his future wife, Judy Brown, in Glendive, Montana. The couple married in 1966, and their union was blessed with two sons, Jim and Joe. Jerry worked for Burlington Northern in Livingston and BNSF in Havre, retiring from BNSF in 2008.

Despite only having an eighth-grade education, Jerry never backed down from the responsibility of having and supporting a family, including a career change at 40 years old that required a year of schooling, including advanced mathematics that he completed with honors. He worked for United Airlines in San Francisco for 10 years, and retired from UA in 1998. Jerry and Judy then returned to Havre to work for BNSF once again. He loved working on trains and enjoyed time spent with his fellow employees.

Jerry loved spending time with his family, camping and snowmobiling, motorcycling, and he especially loved teaching his two sons to hunt and fish. Jerry also loved the outdoors and horses and had a special touch with animals. He enjoyed the many hours he spent working on the Brown family ranch.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby King; his parents, Earl and Lura King; and his mother and father-in-law, Jim and Wanda Brown; nephew, Jay Betley.

Jerry is survived by Judy of Havre, his beloved wife of 47 years; his sons, Jim (Angie) King, daughters Hanna and Sara of Billings and Joe (Devra) King), son, Dillon, daughters Katie and Bailey and three step-children of Havre; step-daughter, Gretchen (Tim) Stenson, sons Nathan and Tyler of Billings; his seven grandchildren; his thee step-grandchildren; his sisters, Muriel Stone and Loretta (Hubert) Vancil, all of Malden, Missouri; his brother-in-law Jim "Toad" Brown of Livingston; his sisters-in-law, Connie (Victor) Westund of Mesa, Arizona, and Janie (Ken) Betley of Livingston; and his constant companion Sadie, who will miss him terribly.
