Skaters shred Big Sandy

Derek Milner of Kalispell rides at Saturday's Skate Jam in Big Sandy.

The Big Sandy BBQ and Skate Jam Saturday brought Hi-Liners and visitors from farther away to the small town to watch skateboarders drop into the bowl.

The bassist for Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament, is from Big Sandy and paid to have the skate park built in 2010.

Since then, the skate jam has been held to raise money to expand the park, which consists of just the bowl as of yet. The expansion will bring a flat portion to the park with concrete boxes and grind rails.

Skateboarders from all over Montana and one from Puerto Rico all came to take turns taking on the bowl at the friendly, good-natured event.

Friday's Havre Daily News Hi-Line Living section will feature the skate jam with more photos and a story.
