Thoughts on fireworks, Great Northern Fair

Now that the noise of the Fourth of July is over and the fair is done, I have these comments to make.

Havre City Council, without any consideration for our feelings, allowed fireworks to be set off inside the city limits. The first year of that ordinance my dog, who is older, was terrified and my neighbor's garage was set afire by a rocket of fireworks.

This fire resulted in some individuals shouting outside my door and forcing me out of my own home, being very forceful and pushy. So next year I have figured out what my solution will be and since I have feelings of contempt and disgust for each and every member of the council, I will go to the noisiest groups in my area and let loose a surprise of my own for the Fourth of July.

Now, to the fair board that voted to conduct the fair at the end of July rather leaving it in August the way it was. I have nothing but contempt for each member on that board for moving the fair date.

Their lack of consideration for some of us on a fixed income looms large to a few of us.

As anyone is aware, SSI and Social Security checks appear on the 1st and 3rd of each month. Where the fair was in August, I personally could hold back a small amount of cash to see the rodeo and enjoy some treats, but since the dates have changed for the fair I was only up there one time and that was with a friend. I did not expect him to pay my way

So I've said all I'm going to on this subject, but my disgust for these two boards is great for the lack of consideration and the feelings they have affected.

If you need your government check to afford a corn dog and a stick of cotton candy? You probably shouldn't be buying a corn dog and a stick of cotton candy. HINT. As far as the fireworks in town, I loved it. Very few places left in the lower 48 that a kid can shoot off a mortar in his front yard while dad drinks a silo of Budweiser @ 1am. God bless America, and especially Havre, MT.

Thank you Milt for your opinion. I was the chairman of the ordinance committee at the time this went through just over 3 years ago (2011). This issue was debated three separate times before being adopted. The issue was brought up by the fire department with concerns over liability. Ban in place or not, fireworks were still being used and our fire department was being stretched too thin enforcing an unenforceable law. The decision to allow fireworks for a limited time was the simple compromise.

ATTN: 2SMART4U... Go back and do some meaningful research instead of posting uneducated drivel... Mayor Tim was in office at the time because Get R' Done Mayor Bob never had 4 R's and 4 D's under his supervision at any point in time.

I personally wanted to point out how much I loved having the fair in July. We have my step-daughter during the summer months and because of timing, this year, we were lucky enough to get to take her! I hope they keep this time of the year up!

You should have saved more money in your lifetime if your waiting on a SSI check to go to a fair. I dont believe thats the 1st thing on their mind, well maybe we should have the fair until the 1st week of the month or the 3rd week when are those SSI checks being mailed out again said NO ONE on the board. Your argument is ridiculous

Ohno, you should heed your name! Allowing the use of fireworks in the Havre city limits was brought up by none other than REPUBLICAN Andrew Brekke and whole heartedly supported by none other than Bob Rice, also a REPUBLICAN. There were 4 Rs and 4 Ds on the City Council at the time. Go back and do some meaningful research instead of posting uneducated drivel. And Milt, go protest at the homes of those who supported that asinine piece of legislation and not the ones that didn't vote for it!

The fair was held the same week as last year so you have had a whole year to save up 20-30 bucks to go Milt. Why is your failure to plan ahead someone else's fault?

Another opinion about our democrat leadership from a fellow democrat. Guess these boards don't care what political party you advocate Milt
