Another youth state tourney hits Havre

Havre All-Stars host Babe Ruth 13U State Tournament at Legion Field

It will be another exciting week for youth baseball as Havre is hosting the Babe Ruth 13 and under state tournament this week at Legion Field. The bracket will include seven teams from across the state of Montana as teams fight for a spot in the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament.

The tournament will feature 13 games and is double elimination. It begins today and will continue through Sunday with the top two teams qualifying for regionals. In addition to Havre, six other teams are taking part and they include Miles City, Glacier, Lewistown, Belgrade, Kalispell and Hi-line.

Havre will bring a competitive team to the tournament and will begin its quest for a state title tonight against Miles City at 5 p.m.

The Havre team is made up of all-stars, who were selected to be a part of the roster and are ready to take on the best 13 and under teams the state of Montana has to offer.

At this level, every player has to play multiple positions but Havre will rely mainly on four players for pitching. Kennedy McKay, who also plays catcher and short stop, Brendan Garden, who also sees time in center field and third base, Ethan Roberts, who also plays short stop and center field as well as Taylor Gopher, who plays first base in addition to pitching.

Also suiting up for Havre this weekend are Josiah Harrison in right field and second base, Tommy Brown, who alternates between right and left field and Kelden Sullivan, who plays third base and center field.

Rounding out the roster is James Christensen, who handles catching duties and plays center field, Brett Marti, who is a right fielder and third baseman, Austin DelaRose, who mans second base and center field as well as Tony Atley, who plays first and right field. Jace Lipp is also on the team but is unable to play due to injury.

The Havre coaching staff consists of Douglas Garden and Dustin Malley.

The action will get underway this afternoon at 3 p.m. when Lewistown takes on Belgrade. The winner of that game will take on Kalispell Friday morning at 10 a.m.

Hi-line also takes on Glacier at 7:30 p.m. with the winner of the game playing the winner of Havre and Miles City Friday at noon. Opening ceremonies for the tournament will be tonight at 7 p.m. The winner of the state tournament advances to the Pacific Northwest Regional next week in Helena.
