'Sympathy Jones' takes the stage Thursday

The youth production of the local acting troupe is bringing a musical-mystery-suspense thriller to Havre starting this week with its production of "Sympathy Jones: The new secret agent musical."

The Montana Actors' Theatre annual summer youth production opens Thursday and runs through Saturday this week, with the old-style secret agent play, written by Masi Asare and Brooke Pierce. MAT veterans Audrey Barger and Angela Pratt are directing the play, which premiered at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2007.

The play runs Thursday through Saturday and July 31 through Aug. 2, next week as well.

The extensive cast includes other MAT veterans as well as some new thespians, with Emily Simonson playing the title role and Aria Pratt, Chris Steinmetz, Aylan Pratt, Clayton Twombly, Millie Loftus, Laurel White, Josiah Stocker and Brandon Bergren rounding out the top roles.

The play also sports an extensive chorus performing in a variety of roles. That list includes Rory Everingham, Trevor Harshman, Patrick Leeds, Madison McCann, Alex McDermatt. Katelyn Maloughney, Kierstyn Martin, Bethany Ordiniza, Eagan Phillips, Lela Phillips, Randi Ruhkamp, Jordan Smith and Adrianne Standiford.

Michelle Rainey is the stage manager, with Bill Dolph and Ravyn Hoffman acting as the technical crew. Mary Kaercher is the choreographer and Oriah Pratt the assistant director of choreography.
