Havre's Warp honored by USA Today

Havre High school standout Dane Warp hasn't started his junior season of football, or basketball for that matter. But he's been very busy this summer, and he's earning the accolades to prove it.

Warp, who will begin his third year as the quarterback of the Havre Blue Ponies next month, was recently named to an All-USA Montana Team published by the USA Today. Warp was named All-USA Montana First Team for his sophomore season of basketball, a season in which he averaged 24 points per game, while also leading the Blue Ponies in assists, steals and rebounding, while helping Havre reach their first Class A state tournament since 2005.

Warp was the only Class A player selected to the First Team, which also includes Missoula Hellgate star Tres Tinkle, Billings Skyview's Kendal Manual, Great Falls High's Brendan Howard and Billings West's Jared Samuelson.

Warp is currently in Las Vegas playing an elite national high school basketball AAU tournament with a team composed of Montana players.

Meanwhile, he's also been hard at work in football this summer.

In June, he attended the prestigious Northwest Elite Prep Football Camp, and was among 700 top football prospects from the Pacific Northwest. At that camp, Warp, who is already a two-time Class A All-State quarterback for the Ponies, he impressed, earning Second-Team QB honors, competing against and with quarterbacks and players from much larger populations, like the Seattle and Portland areas, as well as QB's from all over Oregon and Washington.

And the summer has kept going. Warp has also attended the Northern California Elite 11 Quarterback Camp, Nike Football Training Camps in both Eugene, Oregon and in San Francisco, the University of Washington Rising Stars Camp, the Washington State University Individual Camp, the Oregon State University Individual Camp, the Stanford University Camp and junior days at Brigham Young University and the University of Wyoming.

Back in the spring, Warp also made the trip to Detroit to partake in a Rivals Scouting Camp. Rivals, which is part of Yahoo Sports, is one of the biggest college football recruiting sites in the United States.

And while he's been throwing plenty of footballs this summer, and is looking forward to the start of the 2014 Havre High football season, this week is about basketball.

Warp is playing on the Northwest Cougars, a traveling Montana U16 team. Warp's squad will compete in the Las Vegas Live Tournament and the Las Vegas Classic this week, with both tournaments featuring elite prep basketball players from across the country.
