MSU-Northern inks standout point guard

College basketball season is still a ways away. But Montana State University-Northern head coach Shawn Huse has inked another standout to help build his 2014-15 Lights’ squad.

Huse recently announced the signing of Trevail Lee, a 5-8 point guard from Memphis, Tennessee. Lee comes to Northern from Mid-South Community College and will major in health promotions at MSU-Northern.

“On the court, Trevail is a very crafty point guard who can lead a team,” Huse said. “His knack for creating opportunities for teammates, and creating and converting on a high percentage of his own scoring attempts, really impressed me. We were in a unique situation with our very tough point guards being seniors last year, so landing one of his ability was very important for us.”

Lee was a two-year starter for the Greyhounds and was named to the All-Region team as a sophomore in 2012-13 after leading the team in scoring at 18 points per game. He also averaged nearly five assists and three steals while shooting over 41 percent from the 3-point line and shot 81.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Drawing interest from several schools, Lee decided to return to Mid-South Community College to finish his associate degree which he earned in May.

“Staying in school and earning his Associate of Arts degree impressed me the most,” Huse said. “Many collegiate athletes just move on and follow their athletic dream when the opportunity arises. Trevail was committed to finishing his schooling at Mid-South CC first. Academics and finishing the job he sets out to do are very important to him, which is a huge reason why we liked him and ultimately offered him.”

The Lights had five seniors on last year’s team that finished 23-9 overall, 11-5 in the Frontier conference, earning a second place tie, and earned their fourth trip in a row (five in six years) to the NAIA National Tournament. Lee joins Warren Edmonson and Drummond’s Kevin Oberweiser as recruits for the Class of 2014.
