Electrics sting Havre twice in Great Falls

The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball club’s struggles against Northern District rivals continued on the road Tuesday afternoon. Havre was in Great Falls for a pair of makeup games with the Great Falls Electrics, but the Electrics weren’t friendly hosts.

Great Falls swept the North Stars in a Northern District doubleheader, winning by scores of 8-5 and 10-0. The two losses in Great Falls dropped Havre to 7-9 in conference play and 16-16 overall.

The first game was a battle throughout, as both teams got the bats going. Havre belted 11 hits in the outing and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. But Great Falls wound up with 12 hits and scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the North Stars. Travis Roth, David Denny and Chris Vukasin all had two hits each, while Vukasin doubled, as did Jeff Miller, who drove in a pair of runs. Denny, Chance Pitkanen and Ryne Antley also had RBIs, while Dylan Carpenter took the tough loss on the mound.

The nightcap between the two district rivals wasn’t as close. The Electrics hammered out five runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second, and the North Stars couldn’t respond. Great Falls totaled 15 hits off Vukasin, who pitched the distance for the North Stars in the six-inning loss. Meanwhile, Havre managed just four hits as Great Falls’ starter Dawson Reiman threw a shutout. Roth, Denny, Pitkanen and Gavin Gunderson collected the hits for the North Stars, who are now 1-3 against the Electrics this season.

The North Stars now return home for four Northern District games over the next two days. Havre takes on the Vauxhall Spurs today, starting at 3 p.m. The North Stars remain at Legion Field to face to the Fort MacLeod Royals, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday.
