Mildred I. McCoig

Mildred I. McCoig, 95, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the Big Sandy Medical Center of natural causes. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements. Mildred was born on July 19, 1918, in Plains, Montana, to Leon and Lucy (Schroeder) Rhoades, and was raised along Bull Lake. She attended schools in Troy, graduating from Troy High School in 1941. She graduated from Northern Montana College in 1954 with her degree in teaching. She worked for many years teaching in schools in and around Havre and Whitlash. On Jan. 22, 1960, Mildred married Dewey McCoig in Big Sandy, and relocated there. The couple remained in Big Sandy for the remainder of their years. Dewey passed away in 1999, and Mildred remained in Big Sandy, volunteering at the Big Sandy Museum and the Big Sandy Senior Citizens Center. Mildred enjoyed reading, and her volunteer work.

Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband Dewey McCoig in 1999; her brothers Louis and Rhoades in 2003 and George Rhoades in 1999; and beloved nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her nieces Lucille (Miles) Briggs, Angie (Bob) McLaury and Georgia (Steve) Larson, all of Libby, Montana, Betty Jean Rhoades of Colorado, Rusanna Owen of Colorado, Margie (Ray) Munts of Troy, Peggy (Denver) Whitted of Tennessee; her nephews Leon Rhoades and Ronald West, both of Texas; and many great-nieces and nephews.
