Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Dani Wagner, Havre Softball

Moments like Havre High sophomore Dani Wagner had at last weekend’s Class A state softball tournament in Polson don’t come around often. But one did for her last Thursday. Wagner belted a 3-run homerun which smashed off the right field scoreboard, lifting HHS to a 7-5 win over Miles City in Havre’s first state tourney game in five years. Wagner went 2-for-4 with a double, a HR and five RBIs against Miles City. The standout, who also plays basketball and volleyball, hit three HR’s for the Ponies this season.

Jeff Miller, Havre Tennis

Havre High sophomore Jeff Miller is earning the Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring. But the second time around, Miller is earning it as a Class A state champion. Miller beat Corvallis’ D.J. Pekoc for the 2014 Class A boys singles state title on May 22 in Billings. The win capped off a 29-3 season, as he also became just the fifth HHS players to win a boys singles state title. Miller also helped the Pony boys earn a third-place trophy at the state meet, and for good measure, on Sunday, he drove in two runs in the Havre North Stars’ win over Medicine Hat.
