Havre Pride hopes to sweep city clean

Saturday is Havre Pride Day. The community is asked to take some time between 9 a.m. and noon and focus on cleaning up the Havre community.

The long winter has taken a toll on the area.

“Many helping hands will help to make this must-needed spring clean-up much easier,” said Debbie Vandeberg, executive director of the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce. A clean community shows pride and is more inviting than a community that has dirty sidewalks, messy storefronts, dirty windows and littered byways, she added.

The Chamber partners with the city of Havre, the Montana Department of Transportation and many community volunteers twice a year to facilitate Havre Pride.

A Havre Pride day earlier in the year was postponed because of rain.

The volunteers who join in the effort are the key to the success of the project, Vandeberg said.

The Chamber is asking organizations, individuals and businesses to participate in the spring cleanup, Vandeberg said.

The cleanup is for the whole community — business and residential.

Trash bins will be located at the parking lot at 5th Avenue and 1st Street. Bags may be picked up at this location and dropped off. A bin for trash will also be located at Zip Trip in Highland Park.

Recycling has become a big part of the Havre Pride campaign. The Chamber continues to partner with Recycle Hi-Line, Pacific Steel & Recycling and Walmart on their recycling efforts by joining them May 17 with the Havre Pride community cleanup efforts. Recycling bins will be located at Pacific Steel & Recycling from 8 a.m. to noon.
