Powwow brings dancers to Northern

The 38th Annual Sweetgrass Society Powwow was held at the Montana State University-Northern Armory Gymnasium Friday and Saturday.

The Sweetgrass Society of MSU-Northern organizes the powwow every year and draws in competitors from Washington to Fort Peck and Canada to New Mexico.

"We don't represent one tribe or one nation," said Ron Kling, the president of the Sweetgrass Society. "We represent a multitude of tribes and nations."

The first grand entry Friday brought a whirling of colors and music as the dancers filled the gymnasium, circling around veterans holding the flags of the nations attending.
