9C Boys: Bears roll past Chinook for a second straight 9C crown

The Box Elder Bears proved too hard to stop, even for a determined Chinook boys basketball team. Saturday night at the Havre High gymnasium, the top-ranked Bears broke open the 9C boys championship game in second half and went on to defeat the Sugarbeeters 82-58.

On their way to a repeat, the Bears led just 30-21 at halftime. But they picked up the scoring pace in the second half and ran away from the Beeters, who will move on to the Northern C with Box Elder. Chinook finished third at last year's 9C tourney and lost in overtime to Big Sandy in a challenge game.

In the championship tilt, Randall Gardipee poured in a game-high 25 points for the undefeated Bears, while Lane Seymour scored 18 for the Beeters. Earlier Saturday, Hays-Lodge Pole beat North Star to finish third.
