Lights earn big road win at LC State; Warriors take down Skylights

What a week it's been for the Montana State University-Northern men's basketball team. After a deflating loss at Carroll College back on Jan. 18, the Lights have ripped off three straight big wins, and this weekend, they earned a huge sweep on the road.

Northern followed up Thursday night's win at UGF with a 78-71 victory over high-powered Lewis-Clark State Saturday night in Lewiston, Idaho. The Lights built up a solid 15-point lead with nine minutes to play, following a strong finish to the first half. LCSC made a furious comeback, and cut the lead to three points with 2:01 left in the game, but Northern made clutch free throws down the stretch.

Alfie Miller scored 18 points and Corbin Pearson added 14 and 11 rebounds as MSU-N improved to 7-3 in the Frontier Conference and 19-5 overall.

Things didn't go as well for the Skylights, who lost at LCSC 80-68 Saturday night. The 14th-ranked Warriors raced out to a 20-point halftime lead, and though MSU-N whittled the deficit to five in the second half, the No. 17 Skylights couldn't all the wya overcome the big hole they were in.

Kassie Barta scored 15 points as the Skylights fell to 7-3 i the Frontier and 17-5 overall. Both Northern teams are home to host Montana Tech and LCSC next weekend.
