Volunteers sought for community crisis line

With a proposal in place to expand a domestic abuse crisis line to a community-wide general crisis hotline, the volunteer coordinator for District 4 Human Resources Development Council is looking for more people to staff the line.

In a meeting held before the Hill County Health Consortium meeting to discuss implementing a Community Health Improvement Plan, the Hill County Local Mental Health Advisory Council agreed that the HRDC domestic violence crisis line should be expanded to act as a hotline for any crisis, be it domestic violence, depression, suicidal tendencies, other mental health problems or any problems that arise in the community.

The group agreed that in order to do so, more volunteers would be needed, including possibly setting up a phone tree.

Jennifer Fitch, HRDC volunteer coordinator and manager of the domestic violence shelter The Haven, said after the meeting that volunteers would be trained to staff the crisis line.

People who want more information or who want to volunteer can contact Fitch at 265-6743, ext. 1137.

The number for the HRDC Crisis Line is 265-2222.
