City Council raises wages of firefighters, officers, dispatchers

Havre City Council has approved contracts with unions representing firefighters, police officers and dispatchers.

The deals call for a 2 percent raise.

Besides the raise, the firefighters’ labor contract and the bargaining agreements also included minor official language changes, according to Andrew Brekke, Ward 4 council member.

The council unanimously approved of the Atrium Mall placing banners at the corners of 2nd Street and 3rd Avenue, 3rd Street and 3rd Avenue and on a street light on 4th Avenue between 1st and 2nd streets.

Public comment came from students associated with the Havre High School band. They announced they were selling cookies as a fundraiser.

A local Boy Scout, who led the meeting in the pledge of allegiance, announced he was selling popcorn as a fundraiser.

Fire Chief Dave Sheppard announced that this week is Fire Prevention Week and that he and his crew will be hosting an open house for the entirety of the week.

People may go to the Havre Fire Department to talk to firefighters and employees, tour the facility and grab snacks and drinks.
