Volunteers great at Sounds on the Square

August 23, 2013

Editor:

On behalf of the Havre Area Chamber Chamber of Commerce and the Town Square Committee we would like to thank all the bands that made this summer’s Sounds on the Square a huge success.

The time that each of the eight bands dedicated to each Wednesday evening in the months of June, July and August shows their commitment to the Sounds on the Square and to the community.

As with so many activities that take place in Havre, Sounds on the Square wouldn’t happen without the volunteer help and the financial generosity of those believing in keeping Havre a great place.

Thanks to Devon Energy for their generosity these past seven years through your sponsorship of Sounds on the Square.

Their willingness to support community activities like the summer music series at Town Square is very much appreciated.

We also thank the Sleeter Fund for supporting Sounds on the Square for the past six years.

Friends gather for a light dinner, other people see friends they have not visited with in a while, all fulfilling the original goal of the Town Square Committee — “to create a gathering place for the community.”

It is heartwarming to stroll through the Square seeing community folks singing along to the familiar tunes and some finding partners to dance to the rhythm of the music. Many I see have supported the summer music concerts since they were started in 2005.

Thank you to Joe Ross for his continuing commitment to making Sounds on the Square a fun summer event for all. Watch for new happenings at next summer’s Sounds on the Square.

Thank you also to everyone who supported each band. Again, a very special thanks to the bands: Blind Luck, Milk River Band, Shovels & Shotguns, Electric Ranch, Enzymatic, Stone Buddha Blues, ROC Band and Shades of Blue, for another great summer of music.

We are already looking forward to next summer’s Sounds on the Square. See you then!

Executive director, Havre Area Chamber of Commerce

The Elks were selling burgers and they are not for profit. Do you know how much those businesses pay in Chamber dues? It is the Chamber's job to support its MEMBERS, not have not for profits compete with them! Those businesses get hit hard for donations from those NFPs-let's support TAX PAYING and JOB CREATING private businesses instead of leeching NFPs! Havre needs to get over its love affair with NFPs-there are too many of them! SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES BEFORE NFPS FIRST!

Really missed not having the BBQ or non-profit food offerings there. Ate at Food in the Box instead...so I suppose area restaurants will complain about that!
