A men’s fastpitch softball team based out of Havre continues to be the cream of the crop in the state of Montana.
For the second straight year, and the fourth time in the last five, the Gallery Lounge fastpitch softball team claimed the Montana ASA State Tournament. The state tournament was held last weekend in Missoula, the Gallery Lounge went unbeaten, including an 9-0 shutout win over the Press Box of Missoula in Sunday’s championship game.
The Gallery opened the state tournament with an 8-0 shutout win over Deer Lodge Friday, then defeated Press Box 8-0 in the semifinals Saturday morning.
This year’s championship Gallery Lounge team was composed of Gary Joe Evans, Cal Wirtzberger, Patch Wirtzberger, Dan Wirtzberger, Scott Miller, Kyle Sheppard and Rusty Evans, all players either living in Havre or from Havre. The team also had Doug Longfellow of Lewistown, Nick and Pat Hergesheimer and Missoula’s Brad Schaeffer.
Gary Joe Evans, who has been a star pitcher on many different fastpitch teams for decades now, has captured eight Montana ASA state titles, including at least one state championship in each of the last four decades.
