Local all-star baseball teams busy right now

Baseball is still in full swing across Montana, and there were still plenty of local little league, and Babe Ruth All Stars in action over the weekend.

And both the 14-15 year old Babe Ruth All Stars, and U13 All Stars had solid weekends. In Babe Ruth action, the Havre All Stars were at a wood bat tournament in Belgrade, where they went 3-1 in their games Saturday and Sunday. And the U13 team was in Glasgow, where the younger Havre All Stars split the two game series with hosting Glasgow.

The 14-15 year old All Stars started the weekend by going 3-0 in pool play, defeating the Belgrade Bandits 17-4, the Billings Fielders Choice 8-5, and the Missoula Bombers 2-0. But locking down the No. 2 seed heading into Sunday’s tournament play, the Havre All Stars were not able to get past the Fielders Choice the second time around. Billings got the best of Havre 6-0 on Sunday, giving Havre its only loss of the weekend.

Parker Filius, Charlie Christianson, and Dylan Carpenter all recorded wins from the mound, while Filius also suffered Sunday’s loss.

But the offense was effective as well. In the win over Belgrade, Jerod Boles was 3-for-5, while Jeff Miller was 2-for-4 with a double, Filius was 2-for-3, Jase Stokes was 3-for-4 with a double, and Carpenter was 2-for-4 with a double. And in the win over Billings, Filius was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Miller was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. T.J. Lovenguth had one hit. Carpenter had two hits against Missoula, while Christianson had a triple, and Miller had one RBI. Unfortunately in Sunday’s loss, the bats were quiet. Miller had one hit, while Filius was 3-for-3 with a double.

In Glasgow, the Havre U13 All Stars won the first game, but dropped the second game of the doubleheader to Glasgow over the weekend.

In the win, Ivar Aageson got the win on the mound, while Havre put together six hits in capturing the win. Havre started the game with a 3-0 first inning lead, but solid defense kept Glasgow at bay, as they scored just one run in fourth and one run in the seventh. Havre also scored five runs in the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach.

Trey Hanson was 2-for-3 at the plate, while Aageson, Gavin Mosbrucker, Bobby O’Leary and Jary Caplette all had one hit each.

Havre only came up with three runs on four hits in game two, but also gave up runs to Glasgow on three errors. Danielson suffered the loss for Havre on the mound.

Glasgow led 2-1 through two innings, but soon ran away from Havre with a combined 10 more runs over the third and fourth innings. Havre trailed 12-3 through four, but Glasgow added two more runs in the fifth, as the U13 All Stars weren’t able to complete the weekend sweep. Aageson, Hanson, Danielson, and Irvin each had one hit in the loss for Havre.

Next up for the Havre 14-15 year old’s is a pair of games against the Great Falls Shockers Sunday at Legion Field. The Havre U13 team is in Lewistown this weekend, and will host the State Babe Ruth U13 Tournament starting next Thursday at Legion Field.
