Medicine Hat group loves cruz'n in Havre

People perused nearly 100 classic cars that were lined up at the Hill County fairgrounds Saturday.

The annual Hi-Line Cruz’n Association's Rod Run started Friday night when the car enthusiasts paraded through downtown Havre.

Some at Saturday’s show were classic car enthusiasts who were enthralled at the display, while others were just curious.

People quickly came to realize that if they wanted good conversation, a few laughs as well as lessons on the classic cars, they needed to stop at the display brought to Havre by the Cypress Rod and Custom Car Club from Medicine Hat, Alberta.

“We enjoy the spirit here,” said Chuck Kruk, one Medicine Hat resident who was sitting in a lawn chair behind a row of classic cars the Medicine Hatters brought with them. “We always have a good time.”

The show has been going on for 27 years and is going strong, organizers say.

“You have great pitchfork fondue,” said Stuart Green, who comes with his family to the Havre event every year from Medicine Hat. “It looks awful, but it tastes great.”

Pitchfork fondue is the special treat served at the dinner the Hi-Line cruisers put on after the daylong show. It was followed by a dance.

Green has five classic cars of his own that he shows off to passerby.

One of the most popular with the crowd is a 1927 J Model T Coupe, which he bought just two years ago.

A real classic car enthusiast, Green spends his summers traveling from show to show. Several family members who have their own cars come with him, he said.

“It’s great to be able to travel with the family.”

The Medicine Hat club is creating a close relationship with the Hi-Line Cruz’n Association.

The classic car fans from Havre attend the Medicine Hat club’s annual car show and camp out with their members.
