Pioneers, Beeters begin Northern C quest

This year, it will be the No. 1 Big Sandy Pioneers (13-4) and the No. 2 Chinook Sugarbeeters (13-7) representing the 9C at the Northern C tournament in Great Falls. The divisional tournament will run today through Friday at the Four Seasons Arena, with a game on Saturday if necessary.

Bischoff has participated in a multitude of sports, both with and without a Blue Pony uniform. She has been on the basketball team since her freshman year, and even got limited minutes on varsity last season. She has ran for the HHS cross country team for the last three years, as well as participated in softball her freshman year and track and field as a sophomore.

Chinook girls end Knights' hot streak

Monday night at the Havre High gymnasium, Chinook earned the 9C’s second berth into the divisional tournament by fending off the red-hot North Star Knights 57-41. The win officially gave Chinook the second-place trophy. The Beeters lost a heartbreaker to Box Elder in Saturday night’s championship game.

But after the Beeters grabbed the No. 2 spot on Saturday with a loss in the championship game, the Beeters held onto the second place finish with a 57-42 win over the Knights on Monday. The Knights defeated the Box Elder Bears on Saturday to reach the challenge game.

The Chinook Sugarbeeters found that out first hand, as they fell to the Big Sandy Pioneers in the 9C championship game on Saturday night at the Havre High gymnasium. Both teams were playing well coming into the championship, but it was the Pioneers who had the dominating performance and grabbed the 63-44 win and the 9C title.

Tonight at the Havre High gymnasium, there will be a challenge game in 9C boys and girls action. And with both games housing the Chinook Sugarbeeters and North Star Knights, Hi-Line fans should be in full force. At 6 p.m. the currently third-place Knights will take on the second-place Sugarbeeters in girls action, and at 7:30 p.m., the currently third-place Knights will take on the No. 2 Sugarbeeters in boys action.

Saturday night the Havre Blue Pony girls basketball team played their final regular season game against the Browning Indians in a game for first place in the Central A Division at the Havre Central Gym. The Pony girls beat the Indians 45-44.

On Friday, the Central A Blue Ponies played their final regular season, as well as final conference game of the season. And playing the No. 1 Browning Indians in Browning, the Ponies struggled. The Indians defeated the Ponies 85-56, giving the Ponies a 4-4 conference record heading into the Central A tournament and locked in as the No. 3 seed.

The Box Elder girls are still perfect, and now the Bears are 9C champions. Saturday night in Havre, Box Elder held off Chinook 47-42 in the girls title game. Box Elder advanced to the Northern C next week in Great Falls while the Beeters will face North Star Monday night in a challenge game.

The Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears were responsible for the MSU-Northern women's basketball team's worst loss of the season. On Friday night in Havre, Northern returned the favor by pounding the Bears 73-51. The win moved MSU-N into a third-place tie in the Frontier Standings at 6-5.
