Two Frontier Conference teams are still alive in the NAIA’s postseason, while a third bowed out this past weekend.
Southern Oregon has reached the NAIA football quarterfinals after beating St. Ambrose 45-28 last Saturday in Iowa. The Red Raiders (9-2) will travel back to Iowa this Saturday to take on No. 3 Morningside, which ended Montana Tech’s season, 40-35 last Saturday afternoon.
In volleyball, the Carroll College Fighting Saints beat Jamestown College last Saturday in Helena to advance to the NAIA national tournament later this week. The Saints will play an opening-round pool play match against Columbia of Missouri this weekend in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Westminster’s Blake Skidmore and Cydney Tibbitts were named Frontier Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player’s of the Week. Skidmore, a 6-0 junior guard averaged 15 points per game in two wins last week. Tibbitts, a 6-1 senior, averaged 21 points and seven rebounds in a pair of Griffin wins last weekend in New Orleans. UGF’s Shaun Lau earned the wrestling award for the week.
MSU-Northern’s Nikki Tresch was nominated for the women’s award this week. She had team-high’s of 15 points against Concordia and 19 points against San Diego Christian last weekend in Great Falls.
