The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team made it three in a row over Montana Tech in 2012. But the latest victory by the Skylights was certainly the most important. On Friday afternoon, the Skylights knocked off the fifth-seeded Orediggers 3-1 in the first round of the Frontier Conference volleyball tournament. MSU-N won by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-22. The win was MSU-N's first at the conference tourney since the 2005 season, and it pushed the Skylights into the semifinal round.

Abby Nicholas led the way for the Skylights with 17 kills, 24 digs and three solo blocks. As a team, Northern had a huge match at the net, racking up 15 blocks, with senior Victoria Polo totaling a career-high six. Hillary Isleifson had 15 kills and two blocks, while Kelsey Williams 12 kills and 22 digs. Polo also had eight kills.

Northern (17-13) will now face off against top-seeded Lewis-Clark State in the semifinals Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
