HELENA (AP) — The Montana Public Employees Retirement Board reversed course Tuesday and decided during a closed-door meeting to reinstate the head of the state pension agency less than two weeks after placing her on leave. The board had little to say after making the decision to keep Executive Director Roxanne Minnehan. Minnehan had been placed on administrative leave late last month after a meeting with board President Scott Moore. In preliminary results, released pending a recount, incumbent first-term Havre Mayor Tim Solomon, a Democrat, again won in a race against former mayor Republican Bob Rice. The first results showed Solomon defeating Rice 1,399-1,110 55.8 percent of the vote, winning in all four wards. In the last 120 years, Havre City Council has had Republican, Democratic, Progressive and Socialist members. But no more. Voters Tuesday voted 1,938 to 577 to hold nonpartisan elections in the future. That means the people elected in Tuesday's elections will be the last ones o have party labels listed next to their names on the ballot. Republican Matt Boucher won the only contested Havre City Council race, defeating Democrat Karen Datko 225-173 in the race for the open four-year seat in Ward 4. Another Havre lottery winner was announced this morning after a woman scratched her way to a $250,000 prize. Mary Tofari won her prize by playing “$250,000 Cash Quest,” which is a scratch-off game. Lottery officials said Tofari was running errands and stopped at the Town Pump on 1st Street to purchase a beverage and two “$250,000 Cash Quest” scratch-off tickets. HELENA (AP) — State Sen. Shannon Augare will plead guilty to charges of drunken driving, reckless driving and obstruction of a peace officer if a magistrate judge rejects a request to dismiss the federal charges, his attorney said Tuesday in a court filing. A change of plea would allow Augare, a Blackfeet tribal council member, to avoid defending himself in U.S. District Court against the same charges he pleaded guilty to in tribal court last month in connection with a May 26 traffic stop. The Montana State University-Northern Lights have their first Frontier Conference Player of the Week honor. Northern senior guard Alfie Miller was named Frontier Player of the Week on Monday. Miller, a 6-0 guard from Seattle, Wash., scored a game-high 24 points to help the No. 24 Lights beat NCAA DII rival Montana State-Billings 71-50 last Friday night in Havre. Havre City Council Monday gave tentative approval to annex areas west of Havre and then gave final approval to resolutions that annexed adjacent to the city. The ordinance and resolutions were split into two items the council had to vote for due to the differences in the way they were being annexed. The Hill County Park Board at its monthly meeting Monday in Havre approved raising fees on Beaver Creek Park from 2014 through 2016. It’s early in the season, and the Montana State University-Northern wrestling team is a little banged up.
