    The Associated Press|Updated Sep 16, 2013

Thirteen people were killed, including the gunman. Authorities said they were looking for a possible second attacker who may have been disguised in an olive-drab military-style uniform. But as the day wore on and night fell, the rampage increasingly appeared to be the work of a lone gunman. Invest... Full story

    George Ferguson|Updated Sep 16, 2013

I know all the football cliches: It’s only one win. It’s a long season. Just have to play ’em one game at a time. Yes, when you love football as much as I do, and you’ve covered coaches for as long as I have, you’ve certainly heard them all. But on Saturday afternoon, on a sun-drenched and breezy day at Blue Pony Stadium, it was time to throw cliches’ out the window. It was time to call just call the Montana State University-Northern Lights’ 45-27 win over the Eastern Orego... Full story

    George Ferguson|Updated Sep 16, 2013

The rematch between the Montana State University-Northern Skylights and the Carroll College Fighting Saints didn’t go down to a dramatic fifth set. It wasn’t the blow-for-blow slugfest that last November’s Frontier Conference championship match was. And yet, none of that mattered to the Skylights. Instead, for most of a four-set victory, the rematch turned out to be a coronation for MSU-N as the Skylights dominated the Saints in their home opener Friday night in front of a... Full story

  • MSU-Northern Game Day Notebook: Young running backs bust loose at home

    George Ferguson|Updated Sep 16, 2013

In college football, often times running backs have to wait their turn, so to speak. Teams generally prefer to build depth with starting running backs as upperclassmen, while younger backs have time to grow and mentor under veterans. That’s not the case this season for Montana State University-Northern red-shirt freshman tailback Zach McKinley. And while he’s already been waiting a long time for his chance to shine, and he got off to a strong start through Northern’s first two... Full story

As the Bureau of Land Management updates its management plans for central and eastern Montana, some people have expressed opposition to applying any conservation measures anywhere. But the discussion needs to focus on how the various uses on our public lands will be balanced. The BLM is a “multiple-use” land management agency, meaning it manages our public lands and their various resources so they are utilized in the combination that will best meet the present and future needs of the American people. That doesn’t mean all u... Full story
