Havre Police Chief Kirk Fitch will retire Sept. 27. Fitch announced his retirement plans this morning. He was named chief in December 2011, replacing Jerry Nystrom. “After serving as an MP in the U.S. Army and continuing my law enforcement career with cities in three states, it was time to focus on my health and family,” Fitch, 56, said in a press release. HELENA (AP) — Former Montana Gov. Marc Racicot says he will not run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Max Baucus. The Republican said Monday said he has been discussing the idea with supporters over the past few months, but ultimately decided against running. Racicot said that he is encouraging U.S. Rep. Steve Daines to run for Montana's first open Senate seat since the 1970s. Racicot said he thinks Daines would "represent Montana exceptionally well." BOZEMAN (AP) — Two people reported being raped in separate incidents at two Montana State University fraternity houses. The university emailed an alert to students, faculty and staff on Monday afternoon detailing the reports. MSU police responded to a report of a rape at the Sigma Chi fraternity at 1:24 a.m. Sunday. As the cross country season continues to march on, the Havre High boys and girls continue to show improvement. After running at the Cut Bank Time Trials last weekend, the Central A Blue Ponies’ season debut, the Ponies competed in Malta Saturday. It is no accident that the Electric City Classic volleyball tournament has grown into one of the toughest prep volleyball tournaments on a lot of teams’ schedules. This weekend, the Havre High volleyball team got a reminder of just how tough the Great Falls tournament can be. The idea of cleaning up Havre and recycling items seems to be gaining steam in Havre. Candi Zion, chair of Recycle Hi-Line, said she hauled four pickup truck loads of plastic from downtown Havre to Walmart after Saturday’s Havre Pride Day. The Hill County Health Department is continuing to prepare for emergencies, both by providing influenza vaccinations and by testing its readiness for disasters.
