Havre High football fans were left disappointed Saturday as the Blue Ponies' annual Blue/White scrimmage to kick off the season was canceled due to heavy rain storms that left the field in Blue Pony Stadium wet. And with HHS set to take on Whitefish Saturday, concerns about the condition of the field led to the decision not to play. Steady rains kept farmers out of fields with a delayed harvest but brought much-needed rain to the region late last week and over the weekend, though they also are bringing flood warnings and advisories farther east and in central Montana. Richard Mohar, the Harlem Public Works director, said most of the water that flooded Harlem during the late week storms has receded but the town is still having issues. “Thankfully, the flooding problems are not problems this morning,” Harlem Mayor Bill Taylor said. A state judge has denied the Hill County attorney’s request to file felony charges against a Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation tribal council member, but John “Chance” Houle still faces three trials in federal court alleging fraud, corruption and embezzlement at the reservation. June Walker Wood, 89, formerly of Lovell, Wyoming, passed away on Aug. 18, 2014, in Havre, Montana. She moved to Havre five years ago to be closer to her daughter, Juliann Riggin. June was born June 7, 1925, in Lovell, the daughter of Merl and Enola Thaxton Walker. She was the oldest of eight children. She spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm in Lovell.
