  • Gardipee faces sentence in child death

    Cecilia Rose Gardipee of Box Elder is being sentenced today for her role in the death of Kaidynce Small, an 11-month-old who died Oct. 21. The sentencing hearing was being held in U.S. District Court at Great Falls this morning. Witnesses favoring stronger or more lenient punishment were being heard. The results of the hearing will be posted on www.havredailynews.com as soon as the hearing is completed.     Sheryl Dee Jones, 52, of Box Elder, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at her residence of natural causes. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., all on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Box Elder.   • Gardipee sentenced to 13 years in toddler death

    Cecilia Rose Gardipee will spend the next 13 years and four months in prison for her role in the death of Kaidynce Small on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation Oct. 21, days before his first birthday. U.S. District Judge Brian Morris imposed the same sentence as he did on Small’s father, Garrett “Kirby” Lafromboise. Kaidynce’s mother, her father and her her aunt all asked Morris to impose a life sentence, with his mother, Jasmine Small, saying she wanted to see both come out of prison in a body bag. We had serious wheel-bearing troubles on our trike and were just glad that we made it into town by 7 p.m. Paul Nugent was driving by and saw our distress and offered to help and meet us as the motel we were trying to get in.     Students of Havre High School hiked up the side of Saddle Butte to make their mark on the history of Havre Wednesday. Lindsey Kudrna said she invited the entire Havre High School Class of 2015 to help paint the "H" on Saddle Butte, but only a handful of students showed up to help.     A man facing his third revocation of his release on a suspended sentence — the second in five months — was ordered to spend the rest of his sentence with the state Department of Corrections.     A new nursing director at Montana State University-Northern has been hired. Janice Starr will begin her role as director for the nursing program Sept. 8.     Three swimmers from The Havre Lions Swim Team qualified and competed in the 2014 Summer Long Course State Championship, which was held in Bozeman from July 25-27.
