Republican Attorney General Tim Fox in documents filed in federal court in Great Falls denied all the allegations brought by the four gay couples who filed the lawsuit in May. The move was not unexpected, as Fox had said previously he would vigorously defend the ban. Approved by voters in 2004, the ban says marriage is between a man and woman....

  • Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels, June 18, 2014

    Updated Jul 18, 2014

It’s Fair Week, and everyone is in a good mood, so let’s stick to laurels. Laurel — The Montana Supreme Court has ruled what we thought was obvious. If you want to claim that you shot somebody in self-defense, you have to actually claim it. Prosecutors have to prove that you are guilty of the crime, and the defense has the right to claim self-defense. But when defendants do that, the state’s high court ruled, the defendants have to testify and waive their right to involve the Fifth Amendment to the United States...

Pictures were in this newspaper of buildings and interiors of businesses long gone, unfortunately, the ones that most of us have not seen...

  • Too real for action reels

    Pam Burke|Updated Jul 18, 2014

Maybe I watch too many movies and I’ve become jaded, bored by the action movie formula, but thoughts of reality keep intruding on my action/adventure cinema experience. In a scene where thieves break into a downtown office to steal solid gold bars to finance a major drug and firearms purchase from dastardly no-good-nicks, (this is what I see): Two mastermind thieves enter the building through the roof (one of them gets stuck in the opening they made and, in the process of...
