    Ken Blatt St. Marks has apparently survived another effort to get him off the ballot in the July 30 elections for Chippewa Cree tribal chair. St. Marks said Tribal Judge Donna Running Wolf ruled Thursday that the provision of tribal code that the Election Board initially used to throw him off the ballot was unconstitutional, The provision says that after a person is removed from tribal office for misconduct, they are ineligible to run for two years.   • Montana Regents anti-bias policy adds gender ID

    BOZEMAN — The state Board of Regents has voted to broaden the university system's anti-discrimination policy to require campuses to ensure there's no discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation. Board members voted 4-0 in a conference call Monday to add the new wording. The policy previously prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, creed, political ideas, sex, age, marital status, physical or mental disability, national origin or ancestry.     Over the years, chances are David Denny could be found on either the baseball diamond, or the golf course. Denny has been a steady participant and athlete in Havre, making a lot of noise on the Havre High Blue Pony golf team, and in Havre youth, and American Legion baseball. And as a recent graduate from Havre High, Denny has already finished his prep golf career, and now nears the end of his baseball career.     I walked into the empty gym at Harlem High. Not the same gym from which I graduated. Not the same school, but one rebuilt after a fire 25 years ago. The “Little Gym” and band room are the only remaining portions of the old structure. Bleachers flanked both sides of the gym floor. A balloon-lined pathway separated rows of chairs.     There has been a rumor floating around that I had another heart attack and died. This was simply a misunderstanding on someone's part, not a malicious plot. I am alive and well. Unfortunately, many caring people gave needlessly worried. I have enjoyed a quick recovery from a previous heart attack and am now in good health.   • Langels celebrate 100-year anniversary

    A family returned to the Hi-Line from around the state and across the country this month to celebrate 100 years of farming on the Hi-Line. More than 65 descendants of Joe Langel traveled to the land he homesteaded 22 miles north of Rudyard in 1913, farmed now by his grandson, Stan Langel.     Morgan Jappe, upcoming Havre High School senior, will be attending the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University in New York. The conference is in its 24th year and will take place Tuesday through Aug. 3. At the conference, students will participate in trips, tours and workshops that are tailored to fit individual interests.     U.S. Border Patrol agents Wednesday helped Glacier County sheriff’s deputies locate and rescue three juveniles who went missing on a float trip.
