For the second straight June, Montana State University-Northern cowboy Charlie Mack will be part of collegiate rodeo's biggest spectacle. The 2014 College National Finals Rodeo begins this week in Casper, Wyoming, and Mack, who just wrapped up his senior year at Northern, will be competing in the bareback competition. Roger Marden, 65, peacefully passed into eternity surrounded by family on May 18, 2014, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana. Roger was born on Jan. 25, 1949, in Williston, North Dakota, to the late Darel and Marie Marden. Roger attended St. Joseph's grade school in Williston, until moving to Havre, Montana, in 1961. Diana "Katie" Twedt, 62, a Rudyard farm wife, retired school teacher, and local artist, died of cancer on June 9. The Fresno Walleye Challenge began Saturday morning with more than 100 boats taking off from docks at Fresno Reservoir. Anglers were competing in two-man teams to catch the biggest walleyes starting Saturday at 7 a.m. and finishing up on Sunday at 2 p.m. The teams could only have five fish on their boat at a given time before they had to find a weigh boat to measure their catch. Action by the Montana governor will save the city of Havre nearly $2 million in a project to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant. A press release from the governor’s office issued Friday said Havre will save $1,918,464 in interest on a $4.8 million loan from the State Revolving Fund Loan Program due to the governor reducing interest on loans from the fund. Two Fort Belknap women were sentenced in federal court Friday to three years of probation and ordered to pay fines and nearly $10,000 back to the federal assistance programs from which they embezzled. Dawn Cecilia Jones and Jennifer Ann Doney were indicted Dec. 19 for stealing the money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and General Assistance programs administered in Hays for Fort Belknap Indian Reservation members. The goal heading into the weekend was a state championship, and after a third-place finish a year ago, the Hi-Line United U19 soccer club knew that was a plausible goal for 2014. But while the United did a lot of growing up since last year's rebuilding stages, so did the competition.
