Pepin Park on 4th Street and 7th Avenue is host to many exciting events throughout the summer months, including Pepin Park Activities, which runs June 3 through July 26. Recently, the governor's office succeeded in vetoing House Bill 12. House Bill 12 was a much-needed, one-time fund that could have been allocated to all providers such as our companies which assist and care for Montanans who are elderly and/or with disabilities. This funding could give providers the ability to offer a much-needed and well-overdue wage increase to over 1,100 dedicated, hard working personal care attendants. Two groups of people, each claiming to be the legitimate governing board of the Community Giveaway House are taking their case to court. The defendants in the lawsuit about the Community Giveaway House have retained attorney Robert Kempfer of Great Falls, after previously filing a reply and counterclaim and motion to dismiss on their own. A federal court judge has set a date for the trial of six people accused of embezzling federal money slated for a regional water project. Tony James Belcourt, Hailey Lee Belcourt and John “Chance” Houle, all of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, and James Howard Eastlick, Tammy Kay Leischner and Mark Craig Leischner, all of Laurel, each face 17 charges stemming from accusations they embezzled money allocated as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to the Rocky Boy’s/North Central Montana Regional Water Project... Ken Blatt St. Marks, the former chair of the Chippewa Cree Tribe’s Business Committee, has been been barred from having contact with Fawn Tadios, the head of the health clinic at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. The one-year restraining order was issued by Hill County Justice of the Peace Audrey Barger, who took over the case because of potential conflicts of interest in tribal courts. The Chippewa Cree Tribal Business Committee at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation has hired new judges for its tribal court. On the tribe’s official website at http://chippewacree.org/, an article says that at its June 6 meeting, the Business Committee voted to appoint a new chief judge and associate judge. Dawn Running Wolf-Bitz, who had previously served as chief judge for the Blackfeet Nation in Browning according to the Montana Office of Indian Affairs website, received the most votes and was hired as chief judge, the art...
