    The Chinook girls basketball team has a lot of weapons. The Sugarbeeters can certainly put points on the board. But they can play defense, too, and defense helped them win a second straight District 9C girls championship.     We would like to take a few moments to thank the hard-working employees of the city of Havre and Patrick Construction. On Feb. 13, we had a water break in front of our home, within 15 minutes of contacting the city, a crew showed up and worked until long after dark to restore our water. Keep in mind, we live on a cul-de-sac with no street lights. Unfortunately, they couldn't get it fixed that night. They were back at 8 a.m. the next day and worked on the frozen ground, in the cold and wind, without complaint, until they had... Full story

    The Hi-Line has a love affair with Class C basketball, and that fondness was evident this weekend. Havre High School’s gymnasium was full all weekend for the exciting competition that fans were treated to. Teams will carry the Hi-Line mantle to the next step — the Northern championships next weekend.     Newly appointed U.S. Sen. John Walsh, D-Mont., stopped in Havre Friday during a tour of the state in his second week on the job. Walsh joined fellow Montana Democrat U.S. Sen.     Montana Sens. Jon Tester and John Walsh met with people at the Rocky Boy Veterans Center Friday to talk about the future of the veterans program at the reservation. Rocky Boy has 153 veterans, and the center is seeing more business than the team working it can handle, said Jon Monteaux, who heads the center. The center has four staff members and 10 volunteers.     It is always tough suffering a conference loss to end the regular season, but fortunately for the Havre High boys, the team wasn’t knocked too far down in the league standings. Saturday night in Browning the Central A Blue Ponies suffered a 78-57 loss to the Indians. The season finale loss gave the Ponies a 4-4 Central A record and 6-12 record overall.     The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team had another day of triumphs and unexpected surprises in what has been a roller coaster 2013-14 season. Northern finished third at the Western Regional NAIA Qualifier Saturday in Menlo, Calif., and the Lights advanced eight grapplers on to the NAIA national tournament.
