  • View from the North 40: In times of stress ...

    Pam Burke|Updated Jan 8, 2021

With plenty of opportunities lately to participate in one of my favorite self-health activities — stress eating — I was prompted to do some research on one of my go-to stress foods — Oreo cookies — after reading an Associated Press article about how Oreos are going where no culinary adventurist has thought to take them before. Nor should they have thought of this: McDonald’s fast food restaurants in China have reinvented the hamburger by replacing the burger with two slice...

  • Celebrating History: Long George Francis

    Updated Jan 8, 2021

By Emily Mayer The parallels between today and a century ago are uncanny. People were dealing with the aftereffects of a major pandemic-the so-called Spanish flu-as well as looking forward to ringing in a new decade. Economics were also not that great, with a flux of men coming back from the war only to find a dwindling supply of jobs, not to mention both grain and livestock prices tanked due to gluts in the markets coupled by drought in parts of the United States. There is...

There were winners and losers this past week in Frontier men's and women's basketball. But in reality, everybody won. • Out Our Way: Calving season - Revelation 21:1-5

    Updated Jan 8, 2021

Out our way, the New Year is truly a time of new beginnings - especially out in the pastures, for calving season is nearly upon us. It is a rough time for the ranchers who have to go out and pull calves in the dark and cold - not to mention how rough it is on the cows and the infant calves. But it is a time of celebration too as new life is introduced into the world. As we begin the New Year, many of us are dumbfounded at the dark times that are upon us. Like some, if not all,...

  • Pastor's Corner: A chinook wind

    Updated Jan 8, 2021

As another chinook wind blows in, I feel the urging to contemplate the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is associated with the natural phenomenon of wind, active at creation as Gen. 1:2 notes "a wind from God swept over the face of the waters." The Spirit is a spirit of life, the very breath of God. "Ruach" is the Hebrew word, which appropriately and beautifully requires a bit more breath from the human voice, an added oomph to pronounce. God's Holy Spirit is also associated with the p...
