"You had better turn your TV on," said my daughter, Jackie Kannberg, when she called on 9/11. At that time we thought it was an accident. However, after the second plane hit we knew better.
My first inclination was to call my relatives in New York as I was born and raised there. Not wanting to tie up phone lines, I waited until a little later to find all were well. Many of my cousins are electricians who often are employed in various parts of the city.
Ironically on a visit to New York in 2000, my husband, Bill, and I were in the observation deck of the towers on 7/11. This last summer we visited Ground Zero, a very profound and moving experience.
Let us never forget 9/11.
