Chinook, Chester earn weekend volleyball sweeps

All local Hi-Line varsity volleyball teams saw plenty of action over the weekend.

In action late Thursday night, the Big Sandy Pioneers defeated the Chester Coyotes 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 26-24 in Big Sandy. The Pioneers were led on the court by Morgan Louvar with 10 kills and 14 blocks while Shana Davis had 18 kills and four service aces. Haley Grubb added 45 assists. Meaghn Kraft had four blocks and 2 aces and Alisha Fossen had five kills for the Coyotes.

Also late Thursday, the Chinook Sugarbeeters overcame a two game deficit to defeat the Glasgow Scotties in five games by scores of 18-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 15-5. The 'Beeters got 10 kills from Jessica Hollingsworth while Holly Dennis added 21 assists and 20 digs in the win.

On Friday, the J-I Rams downed the Box Elder Bears in Joplin 25-11, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22. The Rams were led by Cari Fusk with 6 assists and 6 digs and 6 aces. The Bears were paced by Brandy Lawrenece with 8 kills.

In Gildford, the Blue Sky Eagles defeated the KG KouGars by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-16, 19-25, and 15-13. The Eagles had 8 aces and 42 kills in the match. The KouGars were led by Kim Berg with 10 kills and 3 aces and Steph Dees contributed 20 assists.

On Saturday, Chinook continued its winning ways by downing the Wolf Point Wolves in Chinook by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 26-24. The 'Beeters were paced again by Jessica Hollingsworth with 11 digs and 3 aces. Holly Dennis added 22 assists and Shaylen Haugen had 8 kills. Chinook will be in Havre to take on the Blue Ponies this Saturday.

In Chester, the Chester Coyotes defeated the KG KouGars in four games 25-18, 25-23, 18-25, and 25-23. The Coyotes were led by Amanda Schlepp with 11 kills and Marissa Stokes with 25 assists. The KouGars got 8 kills and 6 blocks from Kim Berg and Emily Stewart had 5 aces. The Coyotes will visit Sunburst on Sept. 13 and return home to face JI the next day. The KouGars will have a busy week traveling to Blue Sky on Tuesday, then travel to Rocky Boy on Friday night before returning home to face Box Elder on Saturday.

In Sunburst, the Box Elder Bears were downed by Sunburst 25-9, 25-12, and 25-8. The Bears got 11 digs from Connie Menard in the loss. The Refiners also defeated the Rocky Boy Morning Stars 25-11, 25-9 and 25-17. The Morning Stars were led by Tia Gopher with 8 kills and 3 blocks. Rocky Boy next faces KG at home on Friday night and then visits Big Sandy on Saturday. The Bears will host Big Sandy on Friday and travel to KG on Saturday.

In Rudyard, the Blue Sky Eagles downed the Big Sandy Pioneers 19-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21. The Eagles got 7 kills and 8 blocks from Jessica Patrick and Kaila Warren added 7 kills and 22 digs in the victory. The Pioneers were led by Morgan Louvar with 6 kills and 4 blocks and Haley Grubb added 18 assists. The Eagles will face KG at home on Tuesday and then visit J-I and Sunburst this weekend.
