Spring flowers blooming in park

By Alkali Springs Correspondent

There is no doubt about it. This is the best of all times to visit the beautiful Bear Paw Mountains. It is just like that in Havre too. When is Havre more beautiful than blossom time? Or when are the Bear Paw Mountains more beautiful than during the time of early spring flowers and blossoms as well.

Take upper Alkali Springs. That whole area is just a riot of purple rooster heads. It is like carpets and carpets. Normally those flowers are a little selective in where they grow, but not this year in that area. And so beautiful to see and enjoy and pick and sniff.

And have you ever seen such a beautiful display of wild sweet peas as this year? Alongside of the Beaver Creek highway, they are like tiny scatter rugs of yellow velvet and going up hillsides they are almost as showy and spectacular as balsam root will be in a few short weeks.

Then there are the Juneberry blossoms which have turned whole valley floors and mountains alike into huge masses of white. Not only are they most beautiful now, but this is the time to go out and mark your special bush for later picking the wonderful tasting berries. Why, just writing these words is making our mouth water for a Juneberry pie. None better anywhere.

So don't hesitate, get on out and start camping and finding out what a beautiful spring this is in our old mountains.

And while camping, if you are like us, there is always something that we have forgotten when we get out there. Like matches to start the campfire or pop or we were in such a hurry to get out there that we forgot to fill the car up with gas and the needle is reading below empty. Well, don't forget Rocky Boy for those kinds of needs. The agency is only ten minutes from most campgrounds on Beaver Creek and there is gas, two convenience stores, a grocery store and a great meat market and some or most are open most of the time.

This weekend is Mother's Day. It is a good time to take mom and the kids for a drive through the mountains and pick a bunch of posies for her to show her how much she means. It is also a time to honor all mothers and we certainly hope that as our mothers reads these words in her cozy house overlooking the "big water" as the youngest chickadee used to refer to Flathead Lake, we hope she knows how much she means to us! I am sure she does though, for that is what mothers do best.......they just know without our saying, how much they do mean to us all!

So to you and yours, Happy Mother's Day!
