Havre native Larry Brubaker will be making his last television appearance as an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation tonight on MS.NBC.
Brubaker, one of the leading authorities on Munchausens' by Proxy, will speak about the condition in which a parent inflicts injury and even death on a child in order to gain sympathy. The program begins at 8 p.m. Central Time, according to an e-mail from his wife, Sheila (Harshman) Brubaker.
She further said that Brubaker will retire from the FBI on June 2, after 29 years with the national law enforcement agency. He will become director of security for the Midwest division of Unisys Corp.
Both Brubakers are graduates of Northern Montana College. Larry was student body president for the 1967-68 school year. Sheila, a graduate of Chinook High School, earned her nursing degree at Northern.
"He has so many great memories of his experiences with the Bureau, but says he is going to miss the most not being able to be a Psychological Profiler and helping to solve some very difficult crimes," Sheila said.
The Brubakers plan to return to Havre for the '60s Fossil Festival reunion Sept. 1-3, 2000.
Both of their sons have gone into law enforcement. Jason Brubaker is a college law enforcement graduate and is an officer with the St. Paul, Minn. Police Department. Brett is majoring in law enforcement in college and working as a park ranger for the St. Paul Police Department.
Sheila Brubaker said she continues to work as a labor and delivery nurse in a high risk Perinatal Unit and has loved being an OB nurse since beginning her training in Havre "oh, so many years ago."
